Student Experience
Subjects
Prior to the introduction of The National Curriculum in 1988, with the Education Reform Act schools were free to set their own curriculums. This image shows a list of subjects offered to students.

Segregated subjects:
-
Girls - needlework and cookery.
-
Boys – metalwork, woodwork and technical drawing.

Extra-Curricular Activities
Beaufort offered a wide range of after school clubs to cater for a number of student interests and hobbies.

Swimming could also be offered due to the benefit of a pool onsite.

The School day
The school day started with registration in the morning in house groups followed by lessons. Pupils would have a short break before lessons continued.
At lunch pupils would have the choice of a packed or school lunch and would have the opportunity to do a sports activity such as swimming, gymnastics or football.

After lunch lessons would continue until the end of school day when pupils would have the chance to do an after school activity.

Moving on
Depending on academic achievement, upon leaving Beaufort pupils could start work or continue their education at a technical college or a grammar school.

One ex-pupil discusses her experience of moving on to the grammar school and the subsequent differences in teaching.
